All RBH properties across the UK have now signed the Hoteliers’ Charter in support of raising awareness of valuable professions within the hospitality industry as long-term careers.

The Charter, which was launched in February 2021 to dispel misconceptions about hotel work, echoes our company values of staff wellness, people development, equality and sustainability. The idea for the Hoteliers’ Charter was conceived by Sally Beck FIH, General Manager of the Royal Lancaster London, who founded it to highlight the benefits of being part of such a vibrant industry. It champions initiatives that promote hospitality as a profession of choice to parents, schools, colleges, universities and career influencers across the UK as a strategy of re-education about the sector.

The ten commitments of the Charter are aligned with RBH and our people ethos. We are therefore committing as an organisation to each of these with a focus on developing our teams through training, coaching and mentoring, respecting team members’ work/life balance with more flexibility and alternating shift patterns, and championing the government’s sustainability commitment to be carbon neutral by 2050.

“The Hoteliers’ Charter has given the industry a necessary voice and a platform to change the perception of working in a hotel. We recognise that it’s more important than ever right now to look after the current staff we have, as well as sourcing and developing new talent, and after a lot of unrest in the industry, this is something that we have passionately committed to as a business.

“The Charter holds us accountable to act on the values and visions we have with regards to our recruitment and sustainability goals that have all been outlined as part of our four-year ‘Giving Something Back’ initiative. As well as driving this support from RBH, it’s essential to have the buy-in from every single hotel which I’m delighted to see that we have, as collaboration is going to be key to seeing actual change in our industry.”
